FutaleufU mountainfilm festival

Futaleufú Mountainfilm Festival, a special edition of the well-known Telluride Mountainfilm Festival, is now arriving to the Patagonia, one of the most amazing and extreme regions in the world. The event will take place in the Chilean city of Futaleufú. The entrance to the festival is totally free and includes movies exhibitions, musical shows, workshops and other initiatives.

"Some people, when they suffer too much and are taken beyond their resistance points, simply tear apart and surrend. But there are a few people, not many, who for some reason will be always unbeatable. They have indomitable spirits. Nothing will make them give up " -- Roald Dahl

Established in 1979, Telluride Mountainfilm Festival is dedicated to educating, inspiring and motivating audiences about environments, cultures, issues and adventures. Along many years, the event has been described by the audience by the meaning of one word: inspiration.

Year-round and worldwide, the tour reaches over 40,000 people on five continents. For the first time it will be held in Futaleufú, a small town surrounded by snowed mountains in the Chilean Patagonia and by whitewater rivers and calm and untouched lakes.

The Telluride Mountainfilm Festival has attracted leading documentary filmmakers, artists, photographers, conservationists, mountaineers, scientists, journalists and explorers from around the world to engage in the festival’s tag line of “celebrating indomitable spirit”. The event was elected by US magazine Movie Maker as one of the 25 coolest festivals in the world.

FUTALEUFÚ - A RIVER CALLING

FUTALEUFÚ - A RIVER CALLING

DO YOU HAVE A RIVER TO CALL YOUR OWN?

“FUTALEUFU” is a project for a short film that shines a light on the Futaleufú River and is set to be shot still in 2015. The project was conceived from the desire to share not only the FUTA’s wonders with the world – one of the planet’s capitals for rafting, canyoning and fly fishing – but also to expose the menace that the construction of a dam in the river’s area represent to its rapids and its local community.

This is a sensitive, contemplative film that makes us wonder how the death of a river can leave so many orphans around it. In a first person narrative, the river itself tells the story of its particular relationship to native characters from the community of Futaleufu – who, here - are able to establish a dialogue with the waters. Through poetry and factual narrative we want to show viewers that the Futaleufu isn’t just an ordinary river – and how this small Patagonian town relies on its resources and ancient wealth to survive.

The campaign’s idea was born from a collective of photographers, writers and filmmakers who believe in the power of images and storytelling. The movie will be sent to international film festivals thus transforming the river – an international natural treasure that is on the verge of being unreasonably dammed – into itinerant art. The material above was captured in loco, in Futaleufú; however, with proper funding it can grow and become a cinematographic document. Funds raised here will also help to finance part of the film’s expenses.

This campaign sprouts up along the flowers and colors of the Chilean Patagonia spring but it can only blossom with your contribution. We count on each and every one of you to save the FUTA. Help us spread this idea!
